What are the causes of rashes in children after a fever?

Roseola

Roseola Infantum is an infection seen in children under 2 years. This condition commences with a very high fever which ranges from 102 °F to 105° F lasting for almost a week. The fever is accompanied by running nose, cough, loss of appetite and even diarrhea. The kids develop pink raised rashes on their stomach, back and chest as the fever subsides. Once the fever reduces the condition will not be contagious. It is often a mild infection that is quite common in the mentioned age group of children and there is no specific treatment. But in severe cases where the fever shows no signs of reducing, you will have to consult a doctor.

Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD)

HFMD starts with a fever and loss of appetite. It is commonly seen in children around the age of 5 or below. After a few days of fever, rashes appear in the hand, soles of the foot and in and around the mouth. In severe cases of HFMD, the rashes might occur in the buttocks and even the genital area.

Fifth Disease

Fifth disease is a common infection in children which is usually mild. It is caused by Parvovirus B19. The infection starts with a mild fever and cold symptoms. After a week or so rashes appear on the cheeks and it can spread to different parts of the body like trunk and limbs. Mostly the fifth disease is a minor case but it can have a bad effect on children with anemia. In such a case, a doctor must be consulted immediately.

Chickenpox

 

Fever and rashes are the main symptoms of this viral infection called the chicken pox. The rashes appear as red spots on the body. They eventually get filled with a clear liquid and form vesicles. They then release chemicals that activate the nerve responsible for producing an itching sensation around the body.

Rashes in dengue

Dengue is a fever that is spread by the mosquitoes. Children are also affected by dengue where rashes are spread all over their body. Other symptoms include high fever, slight bleeding of the nose and gums etc.

SLE (Systemic lupus erythematosus)

This is the most common form of lupus, which is an autoimmune disease. SLE is the most severe kind of lupus that can affect the skin, tendons, joints and even the body organs like the brain, kidneys lungs, and heart.

Scarlet Fever

Scarlet fever is an infection that is caused by a bacteria responsible for strep throat. The bacteria produces a poison that can cause rashes on the skin. The rashes spread all over the body resulting in scarlet fever.

Infectious Mononucleosis

Infectious Mononucleosis shows very mild symptoms in children. The symptoms include fever, sore throat, muscle aches etc. Such a condition is caused by a very common virus called Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). It also causes rashes.

Kawasaki Disease

Kawasaki disease, also known as mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome. The disease occurs in children in various phases. The first phase comes as a fever which lasts for about 5 days and two weeks later you will notice large chunks of skin getting peeled away from the hands and legs of your child.
